Ahimsa in Oz Park

Join the Kalapriya Center for Indian Performing Arts and the South Asian American Policy and Research Institute (SAAPRI) for Ahimsa: The End of Violence. This community event will be held through the Chicago Park District at four diverse Chicago locations this summer.

The program will consist of a classical Indian dance performance by Kalapriya artists on themes of violence, justice, and the principle of ahimsa, meaning nonviolence. The performance will be followed by a panel discussion led by SAAPRI with community leaders and activists that will address work around violence prevention in Chicago.

Chicago neighborhoods have some of the highest rates of violence in the nation, and communities of color are disproportionately affected by hate crimes, domestic abuse, and other forms of violence. “Ahimsa” will be a powerful way to bridge cultural barriers in our city and envision how we might work together across communities to find common ground and build peace.
