Understanding Hate Crime training course

This Hate Crime training course will consider the current laws and legislation and the prevalence of Hate Crime through current statistical information for Scotland. Further focus will be placed on how Hate crime impacts victims, witnesses and communities across Scotland.

By the end of this course the learner will be able to:

  • Identify hate incidents/crimes and the effects on victims and communities
  • Analyse the prevalence of Hate Crime in Scotland
  • Review current legislation relating to Hate Crime in Scotland
  • Evaluate the 5 protected characteristics covered by Hate Crime legislation
  • Examine your own prejudices and acknowledge how this affects your perspective
  • Demonstrate best practice in how to respond sensitively to the needs of victims
  • Outline safety concerns and prepare safety plans & incident logs
  • Consider the role of 3rd Party Reporting Centres.
